Pest Activity
Cooley Spruce Gall
 |
Overwintering Cooley Spruce Gall Adelgids found this past week on Douglas-fir in Westmoreland County were beginning to form the white waxy strands they form before molting. While the adelgids should be susceptible to pesticides, please wait until the air temperatures are greater than 50 degrees Fahrenheit. |

Other Pests
 |
Now is the time to check
for winter damage from voles feeding on woody landscape plants.
They can be especially destructive to groundcover plants like
junipers as shown to the left. Penn State University has an
excellent publication on voles and a pdf version is available
here.
The University of Maryland also has an excellent publication
found here.
