As of March 19, the following growing degree days with a base temperature of 50 degrees have accumulated:

Average Spring???

The seemingly long cold snowy winter (compared to the last 5) can lead one to think that we are having a late spring. However, when you compare this year's growing degree days to the past few years, temperature wise, we are experiencing an average spring......so far.

New or Recent Activity

Hemlock Rust Mites have started to hatch and adults are becoming active in Westmoreland County at this time.

Overwintering Cooley Spruce Gall Adelgids found this past week on Douglas-fir in Westmoreland County were beginning to form the white waxy strands they form before molting. While the adelgids should be susceptible to pesticides, please wait until the air temperatures are greater than 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
