If you would like an email copy of this report, send your request to mcm2@psu.edu. As of March27, the following growing degree days have accumulated:
Spruce Rust Mites and Hemlock Rust Mites remain active on Spruce and Hemlocks in Western Pennsylvania at this time. Both eriophyid mites feed on their respective host plants in early spring with their damage to the plant becoming visible in late spring or early summer. The cool temperatures have slowed the development of the Cooley Spruce Gall Adelgid nymphs with little change from the previous week. Control measures can still be applied at this time, temperature permitting. Nurseries or landscapes with a previous history of White Pine Weevil problems should be scouting at this time for evidence of adult feeding on the terminals of Eastern White Pine, Norway Spruce, Oriental Spruce, and Colorado Blue Spruce. The next scouting report will be on Friday, April 5th. |
