Boxwood PsyllidBoxwood Psyllid nymphs were observed this past week in the City of Pittsburgh. The feeding activity of this pest causes the cupping of the terminal leaves on boxwoods and treatment should be applied now before the nymphs become adults. Pine SpittlebugsPine Spittlebugs have hatched on Eastern White Pines in Westmoreland County this past week. Honeylocust Spider MitesHoneylocust Spider Mites were observed on honeylocusts in Westmoreland County this past week. Eastern Tent CaterpillarsEastern Tent Caterpillars tents are 4-6 inches in length and the early instar larvae are 1/2" long. Hemlock Rust MitesHemlock Rust Mites remain active in Southwestern Pennsylvania at this time. Cooley Spruce Gall AdelgidsCooley Spruce Gall Adelgids in Westmoreland County are completely coveredwith white waxy strands closing the window for control for this insect until the fall. White Pine WeevilsWhite Pine Weevils in Westmoreland County have laid eggs, but none have hatched at this time. European Pine SawflyEuropean Pine Sawfly larvae in Westmoreland and Allegheny counties are 3/8" in length at this time. Spruce Spider MitesSpruce Spider Mites found on Canadian Hemlock in the City of Pittsburgh have hatched. Inkberry LeafminersInkberry Leafminers adults have not emerged yet but should be very soon. The next scouting report will be on Friday, May 2.
