Elongated hemlock scale crawlers were also active in Pittsburgh this week.
The following insects remain active in most parts of Southwestern Pennsylvania at this time: Fourlined plant bug nymphs Locust leafminer adults Spruce spider mites - heavy rainfalls continue to dislodge adults Native holly leafminers adults have started to emerge but many are still in the pupal stage Baldcypress rust mites Honeylocust plant bug nymphs Honeylocust spider mite adults Birch leafminers larvae Boxwood psyllid nymphs and some adults were spotted in City of Pittsburgh Pine spittlebug nymphs Eastern tent caterpillars -1" long in Allegheny County and 11/4" long in Westmoreland County
