Landscape Insect Identification

Services > Landscape Insect Identification

Penn State Cooperative Extension will assist landscapers with diagnosing suspected insect problems on landscape plants. There is no charge for this service but we ask that the plants be located in a landscape in southwest Pennsylvania only. In order to assure an accurate and timely diagnosis, please observe the following procedures.

  1. Download the Landscape Insect Identification Request and form and instructions for submitting.
  2. Complete the form.
  3. Contact your local Cooperative Extension Office to discuss the problem with an extension agent if you are a professional landscaper.
  4. If the Extension Agent is unable to diagnose the cause of the problem, you will be instructed to submit the sample to the Insect Diagnosic Lab at Penn State University.
